Edward “Whitey” Ford’s control and precision as pitcher of the New York Yankees is what led team manager Casey Stengel to refer to him as the “money pitcher.” The eight-time All-Star won 10 of his 22 World Series appearances- the most pitcher appearances ever- and earned the Cy Young Award in 1961. “The Chairman of the Board-” a nickname given to him for confidence and intelligence on the mound- was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.
